Five Rules to Freeing Creativity

How do you get your creative juices flowing?

In chapter 6 of the book “Psycho-Cybernetics” Maxwell Maltz lists his 5 Rules for Freeing Your Creative Machinery:

1 – “Do your worrying before you place your bet, not after the wheel starts turning.”
Do your research, but once the decision is made, let it run it’s course. Don’t
second guess yourself.

2 – Form the habit of consciously responding to the present moment.
Look and listen to what is happening now. Don’t let past issues cloud your
present day actions.

Hourglass3 – Try to do only one thing at a time.
Focus on the task at hand. Think of an hourglass, and the sand passing through are tasks. You can only focus on the grain in the center, the others will pass when their time comes.

4 – Sleep on it.
Put it out of your conscious mind and let your sub-conscious work on it. Many examples of people who accredited sleep to success are given in the book.

5 – Relax while you work.
Feeling tense? Stop, take a deep breath and remember a time when you felt relaxed. This will give you a feeling of relaxation and you will be refreshed.

Follow these rules regularly and release all of your inner creativity!
